Monolithic Refractories

A refractory is defined as a substance that is resistant to heat. In contrast with shaped refractories, which are formed into a particular shape before shipping, monolithic refractories are shipped in a powdered or granular clay-like product and can be shaped on site to match the specific needs of customers. Two companies in the AGC group produces monolithic refractories. AGC Ceramics produces Ramcrete (general use, high strength), Rheo-flow (does not require vibration installation and more). AGC Plibrico produces the product brand THERVEK™.

Description

Product Key Features

  • Reduced workload: With monolithic refractories there is no need to carry heavy bricks.
  • Complex shapes: With monolithic refractories, it is possible to form complex shapes, such as boiler walls and around burners.

AGC Plibrico – Gunning and Plastic Installation Methods

Applications and installation condition are different in each case, and different installation method must be employed to best fit to each case. Plibrico responds to such diversified needs with a wide range of product lineup and installation method.

Hyrate Method (Thervek HR)

Hyrate method is an installation method originally developed by Plibrico for Gunning installation of Hyrate (Gunnable plastic refractory) Since the product is granular clay-like product, mixing is not required. The product can be fed directly into the Hyrate unit. With gunningplastic refractories there is no worry of explosive spalling. Drying is also completed in shorter period of time than in comparision with castable refractories.

It makes possible to install with several times higher speed when compared with Ramming method of conventional plastic refractory and allowing even complicated shape plastic refractory wall installation. For a certain furnace wall, where plastic refractory is suitable but because of installation condition, castable refractory has been applied, by this development, plastic refractory has become available and made the furnace wall service life much longer than ever.

PET Method (Thervek PTG)

PET method(Thervek PTG) is wet gunning installation method which AGC Plibrico is proud of, and is most frequently adopted now.

Compared with dry gunning, a higher density strong wall can be constructed with PET, which makes it to be used for various equipments.PET installation method is a gunning installation method which carries completely mixed wet castable material (Petgun) with gunning machine through compressed air pressure and mix it with quick setting agent being fed with compressed air just before gunning nozzle. When the material is blew off from nozzle on to wall, with the coagulation action of quick setting agent, it instantly sets to build furnace wall.

Dry Gunning Method (Thervek AD)

Dry gunning of low cement castable refractories, which is supplied to a NeedGun again. The PlimateII system improves quality of the gunning construction and suppresses dust during gunning by adding a certain percentage of waterto the powdered product in advance.
